WHO ARE WE?
Femifesto: Hexus is a semi-anonymous, artist-led, performance and curatorial collective seeking, finding and promoting mysticism through visual, performance and sound art. Formed among soulmates in 2018, our work is rooted in alterity theory and concerned especially with intersectional activism encompassing disability, queer folks, cyberfeminism, alliances with POCs, and anticapitalism. We emphasize collectivity as a strategy to reveal the importance of care and mutual dependency in resistance to socially dominant ideas about the productive bodymind within patriarchal capitalism.
WHAT DO WE DO?
Through our actions, we support each other; physically, mentally, and with magickal practices. Through our scholarship and curatorial work, we establish ourselves as allies to and advocates for marginalized people. We are here to be conduits, not mouthpieces. Through our artwork, we make visible the invisible. Our bodies are a channel to our personal experiences, and we use them to force the public gaze toward (dis)ability issues.
WHAT DO WE WANT?
We want equity in the arts, particularly within institutions and experimental exhibition spaces; freedom for (dis)abled artists to self-identify and to make art that reflects their experience without being pigeon-holed; and, funding for non-traditional art such as performance.
